Apply/contact
We accept applications for new learners through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All applicants for seven-year categorical positions must enter the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The length of a Geisinger neurosurgery residency is seven years. As a newly accredited program, we will consider applicants for seven-year positions starting with the PGY-1 year.
All applicants must apply through ERAS and submit all required materials and the following documents:
- Medical student performance evaluation
- Transcripts
- Three letters of recommendation, preferably from American Board of Surgery-certified surgeons who are familiar with your work
- United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step I scores (Step II required before residency program starts)
- Personal statement
Note that we do not have a minimum USMLE score requirement; instead, we will review your complete application. High scores and academic honors, however, do influence our Selection Committee.
If you are an international medical graduate, contact your local Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) office for more information on ERAS. Foreign medical graduates are required to have ECFMG certification before applying to our program.
After the Selection Committee has reviewed your completed file, and if you are offered an interview, you will be contacted by email to select a date for your interview. Be sure to include your email address as part of your ERAS application.
Interviews
Interviews for the neurosurgery residency will be granted by invitation only. This year’s interviews will be conducted virtually.
Medical students
Medical students are also welcome to apply for visiting rotations. For more information, contact medstudents@geisinger.edu.
